God is a PR Nightmare!!!

Let’s face it, God is a PR nightmare; the more you try to get people to like him, the more you realize that what you are offering them as God, is at worst no God at all or at best another God.

God is notoriously sovereign! He does whatsoever he pleases. : (Psalm 115:3; Daniel 4:35; Matthew 11:27; John 6:44)
And he places demands on his creatures, that are impossible for them to meet without him(Deuteronomy 6:5; 11:1,13; Matthew 22:37)

He then accuses men, justly, for failing to meet his demands (Romans 3:10-23)

Did I mention he is “notoriously” sovereign (There are over 1500 “I will” spoken by God in Scriptures. Exodus 33:19, Romans 9:15)

It reminds me of the story I heard of a preacher who declared, “I believe AIDS is judgment from God against Sin.”
A woman in the crowd, who couldn’t take it got up and said “No sir! You lie, AIDS is not God’s judgment; babies die of AIDS too.”
The Preacher then asked, “Ma’am, how many babies do you think God killed when he flooded the earth in Noah’s time?”
To this the woman angrily responds, “I could never serve a God like that!”

What a tragedy, even we are sometimes ashamed of God’s “escapades” in the OT, all the campaigns of “mass murders,” “ethnic cleansing” and “genocide” he ordered the Israelis to undertake, just to give them land that “belonged” to others.

Then imagine him rejecting the king that showed “compassion” by sparing the life of a POW, and then forgiving the king that arranged the death his own officer at war, just to “steal” his wife.

Then to top it up, you read such gross things about him “killing his own son” just to appease his sense of justice; and “as he claims,” save some people from his wrath which is coming upon all of humanity.

How do you make God look good? Really?

He is a PR nightmare!!

  1. @Kenneth, for over five minutes now I haven’t stopped laughing hard at your comment. He has a logical point though, but the walk with God is one of faith. As a PRO for God, I realize that He shows His beauty and goodness by Himself to men. We lift Him up, He draws men to Him. How? I can’t tell it all, and really, we’ll never know it all yet (because of our limiting flesh), till we see Him face to face.

  2. I think that story was from paul washer right? Anyways , funny and very true, sometimes it gets frustrating when you try to give him a facelift and you end up doing more damage. Best to showcase him in all his mystery and splendour
